Pregnancy, Labor and Essential Oils

Essential oils helped me so much during my pregnancy and even throughout my labor and delivery. Pregnancy, Labor and Essential OIls

Since writing this post my knowledge and understanding of Essential Oils during pregnancy have changed.

I have recently written a NEW Pregnancy Guide – including my favorite oils and recipes for the first trimester. You can read it HERE.

The 2nd and 3rd Trimester Favs are coming too.

Surviving Pregnancy and Labor with Essential Oils

Pregnancy, Labor and Essential Oils – greatest thing ever. I’m sure by this point lots of you have heard lots about essential oil, either from friends or coming across them at markets (if you do that kind of thing) or even from me. I heard it from my cousin and my mom (you can read about it here). Honestly, I was very skeptical at first, I thought it was just another trend and that it didn’t actually work. However, having a science degree and taking lots of classes in all things chemical and plant I knew that there was some truth to plants being medicinal and working. I mean how did people back in the day make it through sickness, right? These oils are just that; they are made from plants and other botanicals. When I got pregnant, I did lots of research on oils. You have to be careful to avoid certain ones, like Clary Sage (they can bring on contractions.), so save those ones for 40 weeks when that baby is ready to come. So I would do extensive research into oils while pregnant. I mainly used Gentle Baby, Frankincense, and Lavender. I had so much troubles sleeping while I was pregnant, luckily Lavender and Gentle Baby worked like a charm for me. As long as I used them consistently, if not then I wouldn’t get the full benefit of it.

There are So many different ways to use each oil

During the beginning of my pregnancy, I was nauseous every morning, not to the point of throwing up but just nauseous. Peppermint oil saved me during my early morning shifts, just a little on my wrists and a quick inhale and I was good to go! Let’s just say I carried it everywhere with me, just in case. I also did everything I could to help avoid stretch marks – my bump roller did great, again, it was Lavender, Frankincense, and Gentle Baby + some coconut oil. You can get all my recipes here. During labor, I had a plan to use all the calming and contraction oils out there. As much as I wanted to use them, I was glad my labor wasn’t long enough to have the time to try it. I’ll add the recipes for you guys, though! I had a massage oil. My back was always hurting during pregnancy, and my mom had a lot of back labor, so on the safe side, I thought having one would be a good idea. I did use it once, during that last centimeter, the scent really helped me get ready to push, it was really calming for me, which was nice at that point. My advice if you don’t have oils or know much about them and you are pregnant and reading this… Lavender is your best friend! Postpartum, to be honest, I’m still working through that 13 weeks later, but for the healing part, I used a version of YoungLiving’s Claraderm Spray. It contains Helichrysum (which is great for healing, inflammation and preventing infections). It also has Lavender, Frankincense and Tea Tree; all great for skin and healing. I used it before and after but you have to use it consistently (that’s the key). I also made padsicles, they are exactly how they sound, frozen pads! The cool sensation for after birth was great, plus it really helped heal everything up faster, and no infections!Guys you probably already heard me say this, but you’ll probably hear me say it many more times. This stuff works! It has helped me so much and is so universal, it works for just about anything.
